Thanking the Stars

StarSantaOrnament

With the holiday season upon us, I would like to take the time to express appreciation to the people who follow A Taste of Morning and thereby inspire me to keep doing the blog,  to the bloggers whose photos and essays I enjoy so very much, and to those who have kindly nominated this blog for awards. Thank you and may your holidays be filled with peace and joy!

………………………..

Every now and then someone nominates A Taste of Morning for an award, most recently Christina from ChristinaSandru and Lonnie from The Belmont Rooster. These people have themselves received awards for their interesting blogs for which they are to be congratulated.

It pleases me when I learn that someone enjoys my posts enough to nominate this blog in return, even  though a while back, for various reasons, I stopped participating in the awards process.  I can’t possibly list all of the blogs that I like, but here are a foodie blogs that you might enjoy given that the holidays are a time for entertaining.

A Little Hope

Image

The foliage on my amaryllises from last Christmas only just died back a few weeks ago. Since it took so long for them to go dormant, I was starting to wonder whether I would have any flowers from the bulbs this winter. Then a few new leaves started to appear in each pot a few days ago. There is hope yet!

Autumn’s Chill

Along with bringing down a lot of leaves, yesterday’s winds ushered in a drop in temperatures. Brrr! It was only 16F. here this morning. If I didn’t have to rake this afternoon, I would stay in and do some baking. Maybe tomorrow : ) Have a lovely day!

Bright Color, Gloomy Day

This has been a wonderful year for autumn foliage in Manhattan, Kansas. The wind was gusting this morning, so I decided that I had better get some pictures before all the leaves come down. Here is a photo that I took looking up into one of the maple trees in our neighborhood. The colors looked especially vivid against the grey fall sky.  Have a lovely day!

Beauty in an Autumn Garden

With cold weather upon us – it was only in the 30’s F. at lunchtime today – I am not sure for how much longer the garden will be in bloom. So, of course, I am trying to enjoy it as much as I can before winter hits. Here are some photos from this morning. My fingers were numb taking them, but it was still a great pleasure to be out with the flowers.

I am not sure that I can explain it, but I find there to be something romantic about an autumn garden – perhaps it has something to do with its beauty and quietude and all of the memories that it contains.

Several of the roses – Mr. Lincoln and Secret – are especially fragrant now. I wish that I could share their scent with you.

Have a lovely day!

Not a Pumpkin

One of my goals for this morning was to photograph some of the pumpkins that I have arranged in the yard so that I could have a nice end-of-October themed shot to share on the blog today. But once I got outside, I succumbed to the temptation of photographing my roses which, by the way, are enjoying the cool weather and occasional rains. (They came through last week’s snow just fine – thankfully!) Here is a picture that I took of Marilyn Monroe, dripping wet on this gray morning after last night’s rains. Enjoy! Have a lovely day!

Snow Falling on Roses

Just three weeks ago, I posted a photo with the title Summer in September. How quickly things change. Today started out with cloudy skies, turning to a mix of rain and sleet, then rain and snow, and just a little bit ago turned over to snow. I am hoping that it doesn’t nip the roses. We have a garden wedding tomorrow! Fortunately, the forecast is for sunny skies and 66 degrees F. in the afternoon.

Golden Moment

This morning, while waiting for muffins to come out of the oven and guests to come downstairs for breakfast, I decided to take advantage of a little free time to take photos of a mocktail for Morning Star Weddings – my other blog. The only trouble – I also had to wait for the sun to come up and get high enough in the morning sky so that I could get enough light for my photos. So I got all set up and played around with practice shots while waiting. This is one that I took of flowers that I was using as background filler. I was happy that it turned out because I really liked the contrast of materials. Have a lovely day!
