One of my goals for this morning was to photograph some of the pumpkins that I have arranged in the yard so that I could have a nice end-of-October themed shot to share on the blog today. But once I got outside, I succumbed to the temptation of photographing my roses which, by the way, are enjoying the cool weather and occasional rains. (They came through last week’s snow just fine – thankfully!) Here is a picture that I took of Marilyn Monroe, dripping wet on this gray morning after last night’s rains. Enjoy! Have a lovely day!

Snow Falling on Roses
Just three weeks ago, I posted a photo with the title Summer in September. How quickly things change. Today started out with cloudy skies, turning to a mix of rain and sleet, then rain and snow, and just a little bit ago turned over to snow. I am hoping that it doesn’t nip the roses. We have a garden wedding tomorrow! Fortunately, the forecast is for sunny skies and 66 degrees F. in the afternoon.
Have a lovely day!
Golden Moment
This morning, while waiting for muffins to come out of the oven and guests to come downstairs for breakfast, I decided to take advantage of a little free time to take photos of a mocktail for Morning Star Weddings – my other blog. The only trouble – I also had to wait for the sun to come up and get high enough in the morning sky so that I could get enough light for my photos. So I got all set up and played around with practice shots while waiting. This is one that I took of flowers that I was using as background filler. I was happy that it turned out because I really liked the contrast of materials. Have a lovely day!

An Autumn Boutonniere
I made this autumn-themed boutonniere with burnt orange mums from my garden and a Golden Mimi spray rose. Burnt orange and gold is a beautiful color combination for Fall florals.
I hope that you will stop by my new blog, Morning Star Weddings, to check out the photos and wedding planning tips. While there might be a small overlap between the two blogs, I will try not to duplicate photos between the two too often. A Taste of Morning will continue to have a range of topics from food to gardening to local events and general photography, whereas Morning Star Weddings will focus on our wedding services and wedding planning ideas … oh, yes, and lots of photos!
Thanks for reading A Taste of Morning! Have a great day!
A Word A Week Challenge: Pink
I thought that these Queen Elizabeth roses from City Park were just beautiful and so perfect for this week’s challenge from A Word in Your Ear. Thanks for the pink challenge! For more pink from me, see yesterday’s post A Dainty Little Cake.
A Dainty Little Cake
A couple who will be getting married at The Morning Star in October really wanted to preview their cake beforehand. So, I made two miniatures for them to taste, working with a few of the elements that I will be incorporating into the actual wedding cake which will be blush pink, ivory, and steel-gray.
After a Light Rain
Daily Prompt: Dull
This is Purple Haze. Except for a tinge of magenta on the outer petals, the coloring of this rose is a very soft mauve or lavender. It makes a lovely cutting rose, for which reason it is popular with florists, though I haven’t been able to find it at plant nurseries.
This particular bloom is left over from a wedding here at the Bed & Breakfast last weekend. So you might be wondering why I chose to photograph it for the Daily Prompt given that today’s theme is dull.
Since it is drizzly and gray out today, it occurred to me that if I photographed the bloom outside the its color would illustrate dull in the sense of soft or not-intense while the weather would illustrate dull in the sense of as overcast or dreary … my intent being to show a little beauty on an otherwise dull day.
Back Home
Having been back in town for a few days now, I am beginning to get caught up on my work and on my gardening. Here are a few pictures that I took this morning. By the way, that’s not a smudge on the top photo … it is a cluster of Russian Sage which can be seen in more detail at the far left in the bottom photo. Ok, so now it is back to work for me! Have a great day everyone!
