May Showers, May Flowers!
Both despite, and because of, all of the rain that we have had lately, the garden is looking quite lush. I couldn’t help but go out in the drizzle this afternoon to take some pictures. The garden should be gorgeous for Mother’s Day.
… And to my mother, who taught me to garden, “I hope that you have a great day out amongst the flowers, Mom! Love ya.”
Happy Mother’s Day, everyone!
Happy Easter!
Happy Valentine’s Day
Happy New Year’s Eve (with a Mocktail & a Cocktail)
Wishing all of my followers a healthy, happy, and inspiring 2015!
Here is a mocktail recipe and a cocktail recipe as we get ready to celebrate, with thanks, all of the good things in the year that has passed – and to toast, with joy and hopefulness, the year to come.
Berry Happy New Year (Mocktail)
Place a scoop of raspberry sorbet in the bottom of a Champagne glass. Add 3 fresh black berries. Top with flavored sparkling water.
Enjoy!
Sgroppino
Place a scoop of lemon sorbet and of limoncello sorbet in the bottom of a Champagne Glass.* Add a splash of vodka and top off with Prosecco. Enjoy!
• Sgroppini are traditionally made with lemon sorbet, vodka and Processco, but since I always make limoncello sorbet around the holidays – when I make homemade limoncello – I like to add a little limoncello sorbet to my Sgroppini. Sgroppini can also be blended for a slushy drink.
Happy New Year’s Eve! Happy New Year to Everyone!
If you entertain for New Year’s Eve, please make sure that no one who drinks will be driving.
First Snow of the Season
Here are a few photos that I took in our front garden earlier today during our first snowfall of the season. I was glad that the snow did not amount to much, but it was fun to get out and get a few pictures before the colors in the garden had entirely faded. But, brrrr …. it was cold.
Have a great weekend! Stay warm!
Goodnight, Garden
Here today, gone tomorrow. That is probably what nature has in store for the last flowers from this season’s garden. Though it was 70 degrees here earlier today, the temperature has dropped almost 30 degrees in the past few hours with an additional drop of 20 more degrees predicted tonight… all thanks to the Bomb Cyclone headed our way. Brrrr …. winter comes tonight and looks like it is here to stay for a while. Goodnight, sweet garden. We’ll see you in the Spring!
Stay warm! Have a great week!
A Beautiful Day in the Autumn Garden
Here in Manhattan, Kansas, we’ve been having unseasonably warm weather this October with recent day time highs hovering around 80 degrees F. (It is actually supposed to get up to 85 here tomorrow.) So it seems as though nearly everyone is giddy over the sunshine and warm temperatures. I took advantage of the weather today to get some photos of the gardens. Enjoy!
Roses
Toad Lilies
Chrysanthemums
Hibiscus (This is probably the latest I’ve had one bloom. My other three are already dying back for the season.)
Quince
Asters Raydon’s Favorite
Beauty Berries & Asters
Japanese Maple Garnet
Liatris (stalks)
Viburnum Leaves
Wishing you a lovely autumn!
Happy Weekend!
Red Rose of September
Weather-wise, it has been a wonderful September for the garden. Lots of sunshine, warm days and “coolish” nights. Here is a picture of Mr. Lincoln from my garden earlier today. With the cooperation of Mother Nature, I should have roses blooming for another four to six weeks. Roses are the backbone of my front garden … the nearly the first and always last to bloom.
Have a great evening!
