Siberian Iris Seedpods

Today is just one of those winter days to be treasured. The sky is an intense cyan blue; and with temperatures in the mid-50’s F,  it feels almost balmy. I had to take the opportunity to go out into my garden and take some photos. This was my favorite of the afternoon.

Have a beautiful day!

Stalwart Watcher

I’ll confess – I didn’t want to spend too much time taking photos outside today. I’m more of a fair-weather photographer. The rain, sleet and hail, have done a good job of turning into snow – for now; but I thought that I’d share this shot from earlier today, when, we were still having a bit of everything coming down. Brrr … what a cold, gray, wet day. Ah, how nice to be back inside with some hot tea!

Well, That’s Kansas Weather …

Just a few days ago, it was nearly 70 F degrees here in Manhattan, and the balmy temperatures melted away almost all of our snow. But so far today we have had thunder, hail, rain, snow and sleet; and yet it is supposed to go up to 47 here this afternoon. Well, that’s Kansas weather for you. At least we aren’t getting hit by the blizzard that has moved in to the west of us!

Daily Prompt: Next Door

Looking eastward, this is our next door neighbor’s porch as seen through one of our “Summer Snowflake” viburnums.  The trees, in  summer, create a delicate white-flowered screen between the two houses. In winter, though not flowering, they still provide interest and, from certain angles, allow just a peek at next door.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

After the Storm

The sun is shining this morning and everything looks beautiful after the 12.8 inches of fresh snow that fell here in Manhattan, Kansas yesterday. It is frigidly cold, though, and the schools and some businesses are closed; so not too many people are out and about town. It is hard to believe that it was almost 60 F degrees here a few days ago!

Stay warm! Have a lovely day!

… and It Is Still Snowing

Manhattan is in the midst of the snowstorm moving through the midwest, with about eight more inches of snow predicted before the end of the day. Here’s a quick photo from earlier this morning.

Stay warm! If you must go out, drive safely!

Phlox in the Winter Garden

On sunny winter days, I sometimes enjoy walking around the garden and remembering the colors, fragrances, textures, sounds and activities that fill it in other seasons. Here are a few photos of remnants of fragrant phlox that I took yesterday. Despite getting my socks and shoes full of snow, I am glad that I went out into the garden then, because with frigid temperatures moving in, I won’t be out there at least for the next few days. Stay warm and have a lovely weekend!

Japanese Maple In Snow

The light in my shade garden was just beautiful this morning. I loved the way the faded leaves of my “Garnet” Japanese Maple looked against the blue-shadowed snow.
