Sunflowers for A Winter Wedding

We hosted a warm and happy wedding at The Morning Star yesterday. Despite the gray skies, the couple’s choice of sunflowers for a wedding theme made everything glow, and with the fire burning it was cozy and warm inside.

Faces of Early Winter

Winter arrived in the Midwest last night and for the time, at least, looks like it is going to stick around. Here are our girls’ reactions.

“Got my favorite old sweater on … am good to go, Mom.”

“Could someone turn the sun up, please?”

“Let’s go inside. I bet Mom has snacks ready for us!”

Have a great day! Stay cozy warm!

Goodnight, Garden

Here today, gone tomorrow. That is probably what nature has in store for the last flowers from this season’s garden. Though it was 70 degrees here earlier today, the temperature has dropped almost 30 degrees in the past few hours with an additional drop of 20 more degrees predicted tonight… all thanks to the Bomb Cyclone headed our way. Brrrr …. winter comes tonight and looks like it is here to stay for a while. Goodnight, sweet garden. We’ll see you in the Spring!

Secret Rose

Weather conditions can affect not only how floriferous rose bushes are, but also the color of their blooms. We’ve had relatively cool temperatures here in Manhattan, Kansas lately, and several of my bushes are producing extraordinarily vibrant blooms. This photo is of Secret blossoms, which are loving this cool weather. Not only are they showing beautiful color, but they are also wonderfully fragrant.

Stalwart Watcher

I’ll confess – I didn’t want to spend too much time taking photos outside today. I’m more of a fair-weather photographer. The rain, sleet and hail, have done a good job of turning into snow – for now; but I thought that I’d share this shot from earlier today, when, we were still having a bit of everything coming down. Brrr … what a cold, gray, wet day. Ah, how nice to be back inside with some hot tea!

Well, That’s Kansas Weather …

Just a few days ago, it was nearly 70 F degrees here in Manhattan, and the balmy temperatures melted away almost all of our snow. But so far today we have had thunder, hail, rain, snow and sleet; and yet it is supposed to go up to 47 here this afternoon. Well, that’s Kansas weather for you. At least we aren’t getting hit by the blizzard that has moved in to the west of us!

Wherever you are, may your day be lovely!

… and It Is Still Snowing

Manhattan is in the midst of the snowstorm moving through the midwest, with about eight more inches of snow predicted before the end of the day. Here’s a quick photo from earlier this morning.

Stay warm! If you must go out, drive safely!

The Surveyor

I spotted this bird high up in a tree in a neighbor’s backyard this morning. I believe that it is an immature hawk of some sort. It was quite large – larger than a crow – which is why it caught my eye. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a good view of its facial markings, but I thought that I would share the photo anyway. Hawks are common in this area, but I don’t see them downtown very often.
