The Tonto Crape Myrtle growing in front of the Bed & Breakfast is my favorite of our shrubs. It has been blooming with wonderfully vibrant flowers for about 7-8 weeks so far and is still looking great even this late in the summer.

A Taste of Morning 
We have a similarly colored crape myrtle, though I do not know it’s name. It is next to the stairs from our deck. Each winter, we debate weather to trim it low for balance with the rest of the garden, or let it grow tall for viewing from the deck table…. choices, choices.

I love all sizes, shapes, and shades of Crapemyrtles! Yours looks to have found a comfortable spot at home.
This has been a great year for Crepe Myrtle. We had what we thought was a dead bush and almost pulled it out, only to discover how very beautiful it would become by midsummer.
I think that because of the cool temperatures in May, the Crape Myrtles came out of dormancy later than usual in this area. Some years we have had die-back on our Royalty CM’s, but not so much on Tonto.

We were in Crawford County to do some research this weekend, and my husband commented on how he’d never seen so many of Crepe Myrtles before. Every yard had them, and they were just bursting with flowers. It was stunning.
There aren’t terribly many in Manhattan, but there are some lovely ones : )
